The Lusaka High Court has set March 21 as the judgment date for a couple from Chalala Rockfield, Lusaka, accused of murdering their 14-year-old maid, Janet Chola.

During the final defense proceedings, a former employee of the accused, Chalwe Musonda, testified in court, describing the couple as kind people. She expressed shock over Janet’s death, stating that during her one-year employment with them, she never witnessed any conflicts.

“I question myself how she died because I have worked with them for one year, and they are good people; even when I worked for them, I never saw them differ,” Musonda told the court.

According to the testimony, the accused woman, Marjorie Lulembo, allegedly told Musonda that Janet’s troubles began after she dropped Lulembo’s child.

The accused, Smart Mumba (40) and his wife, Marjorie Lulembo (30), are alleged to have killed Janet last August at their home. The court is expected to deliver its ruling on the case next month.
