15 people arrested for inciting violence in Lilongwe

Police in Lilongwe have arrested 15 people for being suspected of inciting violence during the illegal demonstrations some individuals who pretended to be concerned shop workers, fighting for wage rise, organized on March 4, 2025.

In the morning, police dispersed a group of rioters after the law enforcers gathered enough intelligence which suggested that some criminal-minded people wanted to take advantage of the situation to ransack shops, as was the case with Blantyre few days ago.

However, after dispersing them, they regrouped and went on the streets where among other criminal activities, they started blocking the road to traffic, demanding money from motorists if they were to be given access to pass on the road.

The suspects were arrested along the Kamuzu Central Hospital road, near Bwaila District Hospital, and Bwalolanjovu areas.

They will be taken to court soon answer a case of Inciting Violence.

At the meantime, police have intensified foot and vehicle patrols in all crime prone areas to ensure maximum safety and security of residents, visitors and all businesses in the city.
