High Court Judge Chimbizyani Kacheche has adjourned the Cementgate case involving Norman Chisale, Roza Mbilizi, and Peter Mukhito to tomorrow at 9:00 AM.
The three are accused of using former President Peter Mutharika’s Taxpayer Identification Number (TPIN) to import cement without paying duty.
The case was adjourned after defense lawyers objected to parts of the PowerPoint presentation by the first State witness, Wilson Upindi, Deputy Director of ICT Risk and Security at the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA).
Speaking to MIJ Online, Kalekeni Kaphale, Defense Lawyer, argued that some materials in the presentation were not shared with the defense earlier.
However, Director of Public Prosecutions Masauko Chamkakala dismissed the claims, saying the State is ready and accusing the defense of using delaying tactics.
