Police in the South West Region are searching for individuals involved in the assault and death of Dingani Maloya, a robbery suspect in Blantyre.

According to Southwest Region Police public relations officer Beatrice Mikuwa, Maloya and two accomplices allegedly broke into a house in Soche township on March 4, 2025, stealing a TV screen.

“While his two accomplices succeeded in escaping the crime scene, Maloya was caught and heavily assaulted by members of the community,” she said.

Police intervened and took Maloya to Zingwangwa Health Centre, where he was later referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. “He was sadly pronounced dead on arrival,” Mikuwa added.

Authorities have condemned acts of mob justice and vowed to arrest both Maloya’s accomplices and those responsible for his death.

Maloya, 20, was from Misesa Village, Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre.
