The Nkhunga Magistrate’s Court in Nkhotakota has sentenced a 31-year-old man, Thokozani Msiska, to 30 months in prison for setting fire to a house, destroying property worth K15 million.

State prosecutor Mickeas Chatsatira told the court that on October 28, 2024, Msiska and his accomplices—who are still at large—set ablaze the house of Mr and Mrs Malowa in Liwaladzi, suspecting Mr. Walowa’s involvement in the death of another man in the area.

Chatsatira explained that when the attackers failed to find Mr. Walowa at home, they became furious, poured petrol on the house, and set it on fire.

“By God’s grace, Mrs. Walowa managed to rush back into the burning house and rescue their three-year-old child, who was sleeping inside,” said Chatsatira.

The court handed Msiska a 30-month jail term, while police continue searching for his accomplices.
