Information reaching this publication indicates that three people are missing following a boat accident in the Ruo River, Nsanje, yesterday.
The missing individuals have been identified as Lawrence Patrick (17), a Form One student at Namilembe Community Day Secondary School (CDSS), his nephew Chifundo (10), and Joe Bisowa (20).
Namilembe CDSS headteacher, Reuben Mozalande, confirmed that Lawrence was traveling from Mozambique when the boat capsized at Sankhulani while crossing into Malawi.
“He boarded the boat with seven others. The other passengers were rescued, but three, including Lawrence, remain missing. Communities are searching for them,” Mozalande said.
Local authorities and residents have since launched a search operation to locate the missing individuals.
Meanwhile, police are yet to issue a statement on the accident.
