Police have used tear gas to disperse the Ng’onga community, who blocked the road leading to Ng’onga Hill in Balaka District, where Portland Cement Company is constructing a cement factory.
The protests, which began yesterday and continued into this morning, saw residents blocking trucks carrying goods to and from the factory.
As tensions persist, police are still using tear gas to control the situation.
The protesters claim that Portland Cement Company deceived them by providing insufficient compensation for their land.
