Lilongwe Police have arrested 18-year-old James Gerald in connection with a string of robberies at Gateway and ABC Malls. Gerald, who is believed to be part of a group of thieves, was apprehended after police linked him to a series of incidents that took place on February 1, 2025.
According to Deputy spokesperson for Lilongwe Khumbo Sanyiwa, Gerald and his accomplices targeted two individuals at Gateway Mall, where they attempted to steal a 49-seater minibus and made off with goods worth an estimated K1.3 million. Among the stolen items were PlayStation games, handbags, and cash.
Sanyiwa stated that Gerald and his associates used knives to threaten their victims, carrying out the robberies in broad daylight. The teen has already appeared in court and remains in custody as police continue to investigate the matter. Authorities are actively searching for the remaining suspects involved in these crimes.
The police have warned the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities at public spaces to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
