The Ministry of Trade and Industry has shut down Saya Investment and Xing Xing Company stores in Limbe for violating trade regulations, including failing to issue receipts to customers.

Authorities discovered that the stores were issuing a single receipt to multiple buyers by confiscating receipts previously given to customers who had purchased second-hand clothing bales, also known as Kaunjika, from their shops.

The closure and arrests followed an emergency visit by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Vitumbiko Mumba, after reports of fraudulent activities at the stores.

During the visit, it was also revealed that the stores were selling Kaunjika bales at inflated prices, despite earlier promises to lower costs if the government assisted them in accessing foreign exchange.
