A funeral home worker in Texas has been charged with abuse of a corpse after allegedly mutilating the body of a registered sex offender.
Authorities say Amber Laudermilk, 34, an embalmer at Memorial Mortuary & Crematory in Houston, used a scalpel to castrate 58-year-old Charles Roy Rodriguez while preparing his body in February 2025.
According to police reports, Laudermilk allegedly stabbed the deceased twice before cutting off his genitals and placing them in his mouth. The incident reportedly took place in front of an embalming student, whom she later warned to stay silent.
Rodriguez, who died of natural causes in January, was listed on the Texas Department of Public Safety sex offender registry after being convicted of sexually assaulting a 31-year-old woman in 2001. It remains unclear how Laudermilk learned of his criminal history.
Harris County Constable Alan Rosen condemned the act, stating that all individuals, regardless of their past, must be treated with dignity in death. He acknowledged the emotions involved but emphasized the importance of following the law.
Laudermilk was arrested and charged this week after the funeral home reported the incident to authorities
