Deputy Public Relations Officer for Mzuzu Police Station, Sergeant Cecilia Mfune, has confirmed the arrest and identified the notorious suspect as Jailosi Kanyika.

According to Mfune, Kanyika has been arrested yesterday on su 16 March , 2025 at Sonda township within the city.

It has been established that the suspect and the girl’s parents are neighbours at Sonda township. On the said date at around 19:00 hours the victim was at the suspect’s house playing with his daughter.

He took advantage that his wife was not around and sent his daughter on an errand insisting that the victim to stay. He then forced himself on her.

The girl told her parents about what happened and the surrounding people gathered to take law into their hands but the suspect was rescued by rapid response Police officers.

The girl was issued a medical report and medical findings revealed that penetration occured.

Kanyika who hails from Katutula Village, Traditional Authority Mwaulambiya in Chitipa district will appear before court to answer the charge of having sexual intercourse with a female child contrary to section 138 of the penal code.
