Former Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president, Walter Nyamilandu Manda, has dismissed rumors that he will be the running mate of Arthur Peter Mutharika in the upcoming presidential elections.
Walter made the statement to clear speculation circulating on social media, which suggested that he was joining politics after losing the FAM presidency.
In a Facebook post, he strongly denied the claims, writing:
“I would like to refute the claims circulating on social media that I have been appointed as a running mate of His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, the President of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
It is evidently clear that such claims are malicious and divisive in nature.
I urge the public to disregard such fake news and to avoid spreading misinformation.
Stay blessed.”
Meanwhile, some Netizens have encouraged Walter to take the allegations as motive of joining politics, suggesting that the DPP is currently in need of a strong running mate.
