Police at Goliati Police Unit in Thyolo have arrested 17 Ethiopians for illegal entry.

The district police spokesperson, Rabecca Kashoti, said the foreign nationals were apprehended by officers who had gone to Namisinje Estate to investigate another incident involving the theft of various items belonging to the estate.

Kashoti said that on their way back at Nang’ombe Trading Centre, the law enforcers encountered an overloaded black Toyota Voxy with registration number MH 8039.

She said they attempted to stop the vehicle, but it sped off. The officers later found it abandoned. Upon inspection, they discovered the Ethiopians inside, whose ages range from 15 to 20.

According to Kashoti, the illegal immigrants were traveling to South Africa through Malawi and intended to exit at Muloza en route to Mozambique.
