A police officer, Constable Ruth Maseko , has died yesterday on 18 March 2025 after being involved in Blantyre road accident while in a police vehicle.
According to reports, Maseko was stationed at Ndirande Police Station and was on her way to work when she hitchhiked a police vehicle. She had requested to be dropped off at the Ndirande Police Station junction, but the driver forgot to stop and only realized it later when he reached Nyambadwe Filling Station.
When the driver checked behind, Constable Maseko was missing. He immediately returned to the junction where she was supposed to alight and found her lying on the ground, bleeding from the head. It is suspected that she jumped off the moving vehicle after realizing it had passed her stop.
The officer driving the vehicle rushed her to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Deputy National Police Spokesperson Harry Namwaza has confirmed the incident, stating that more details will be provided today.
