The Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe has sentenced two men to ten years in prison after they were found guilty of stealing K7,000 and a mobile phone worth K350,000.

According to Deputy spokesperson for Lilongwe Police Khumbo Sanyiwa, the two men, Victor Chitsinde, 25, and Embiriyo Kanthiti, 25, committed the theft on the 4th of March, 2025, near Wulian business premises in the city.

State prosecutor Bauleni Namasani explained that the two men stole K7,000 in cash and a mobile phone valued at K350,000, knowing the items were stolen property.

The accused denied the charges during the trial, but the prosecution presented witnesses who provided clear evidence linking them to the crime.

Magistrate Bracious Kondowe, in delivering the sentence, emphasized that their actions disrupted the community’s safety and order. The court imposed a ten-year prison sentence, stressing that justice must be served.

The sentence aims to send a strong message to those engaged in similar criminal activities.
