A group of Malawian pastors from various Pentecostal churches has held prayers in Blantyre, calling on the government to halt the extradition of Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife to South Africa.

Led by Bishop Malani Mtonga, the pastors prayed and urged authorities to allow Bushiri to face trial in Malawi, arguing that his life could be at risk if he is sent back to South Africa.

Speaking during the gathering, Mtonga stated that allowing Bushiri to be tried in Malawi would ensure justice and adequate security as per the country’s legal framework. He also emphasized Bushiri’s contributions to Malawi’s development, saying he plays a vital role in various sectors.

The prayer event was attended by several religious groups, including Pastors Peace Makers Fraternity, Pastors Link Concerned Pastors, and Ministers Network, who all backed the call for Bushiri to remain in Malawi.
