The Malawi Police Service has launched an investigation into the violence and disruptions that occurred during protests in Lilongwe on Wednesday.
The demonstrations, organized by civil servants, turned chaotic when unknown individuals attacked some protesters and government workers.
According to National Police Spokesperson Peter Kalaya, officers have opened two cases one related to property damage and another concerning physical assault.
Although no arrests have been made yet, Kalaya assured the public that those responsible will be brought to justice.
“What happened during the protests was unacceptable in a democratic society. People have the right to demonstrate peacefully, and it was wrong for others to interfere violently,” Kalaya stated.
The police have urged anyone with information about the suspects to come forward as they continue their investigation.
