Police in Chitipa are keeping in custody a 24 year-old man on suspicion that he had sex with a cow in the area of Traditional Authority Mwaulambya in the district.

Spokesperson for Chitipa Police Gladwell Simwaka, has confirmed the arrest and identified the suspect as James Mtambo.

According To Simwaka, James did the unthinkable during the evening of 22 March 2025 when the the owner of the cow got astounded after discovering that one of his cows was missing in the kraal.

Simwaka explained that the suspect took one of the cows from a kraal of a villager (name withheld) and tied it to a tree before relieving his sexual desire.

He adds that upon searching in the kraal, James started running away but he was later caught by some community members.

According to Simwaka, the suspect will appear in court soon to answer charges of bestiality.
