Police at Chitipi in Lilongwe, have arrested a 30-year-old motorcycle Kabaza operator, Mike Banda, for allegedly stealing two motorcycles worth K6.7 million, dismantling them, and selling the spare parts for K1.2 million.
According to Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu, Banda was apprehended on Monday after investigations led officers to Area 36, where he had dismantled and sold the stolen motorcycles.
Police also arrested 21-year-old Peter Sabonya, a spare parts dealer, for being found in possession of stolen goods. Reports indicate that he bought the stolen motorcycles for K600,000 each.
Among the recovered items were 20 motorcycle helmets, 22 dismantled motorcycles, and 18 motorcycle seats, among other spare parts.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of theft and possession of stolen property.
