As one way of minimizing the impact of climate change in the country, FINCA Malawi has donated 3,000 trees worthy MK3.5 million to 13 schools under Chigumukile Zone in Blantyre.
The official handover ceremony took place at Lipunga Primary School in Chileka where FINCA Malawi in conjunction with Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi (WESM) planted 500 trees at the school’s forest reserve.
Speaking after the exercise FINCA Malawi Marketing Manager Takondwa Chirwa said the institutional is for the clean energy hence taking part in the afforestation exercise.
“As FINCA Malawi we believe in sustainability and this is one of the ways of ensuring that.
“You may recall that not too long ago we introduced clean energy loans and this is another way of showing further commitment in conserving the environment by taking part in tree planting exercise,” said Chirwa.
She then urged the community members around the school including learners to take part in taking care of the trees.
On his part Community Engagement Officer at WESM Gilbert Nkhwangwa hailed FINCA Malawi for involving the learners in the tree planting exercise.
Nkhwangwa said the learners play a crucial role in environmental preservation.
Group Village Headman Mpasuka promised to take care of the trees planted at the school’s forest reserve.
This year’s tree planting season is being carried out under the theme: “Restore Forests and Land to Secure Food Production.”
