Well-known businessman from Machinjiri Alex Chimwala who is also Shadow Member of Parliament for Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in South Lunzu Constituency has introduced a driving school with an aim of empowering the youths and women in the Township.

According to Chimwala, the driving school will offer lessons to youths and women from South Lunzu Constituency at a subsidized rate.

“The driving school will be offering the lessons at a subsidized rate and the fee will be used as allowances for the instructors and maintenance of the vehicles which will be used during the lessons. We could have offered the lessons for free but for sustainability sake thus why we have introduced the fee,” said Chimwala.

Apart from that, Chimwala has also donated an Ambulance to the constituency which will be used in assisting sick people to and from the constituency to the hospital.

When asked if this is not a campaign tool, Chimwala said the driving school is for the community.

“The driving school for be offering lessons to everyone regardless of his/her political affiliations and the driving school will continue operating in the area after the September 16, 2025 polls,” added Chimwala.

Over 5,000 youths and women are expected to benefit from driving lessons which commenced on Monday, March 24, 2025.

Alex Chimwala has been on the for-front sponsoring various activities in Machinjiri such as football, netball and also he has constructed a number of bridges, toilets and other activities.
