The Mulanje Senior Resident Magistrate Court is set to begin hearing a case tomorrow involving a former Malawi Defense Force (MDF) soldier accused of defiling a 10-year-old girl in Phalombe District.

According to South East Police spokesperson Edward Kabango, the suspect, Joel Sinkamba, 39, allegedly committed the offense on February 8, 2025, near Sukasanje MDF Camp.

Following the incident, the MDF dismissed Sinkamba on disciplinary grounds, and he is now expected to appear in court to answer charges related to defilement.

Meanwhile, child rights activist Memory Chisenga has commended the MDF for taking swift action against the suspect, stating that the dismissal will help ensure justice is served.
