Unknown individuals broke into the JIA BAI LI shop in Lilongwe last night, stealing various items.

According to shop manager Innocent Banda, the robbers—believed to be more than five—looted the storeroom and broke into cash boxes, among other things.

Banda stated that after the incident, police arrived at the scene that night to provide security and have since recovered video footage showing the perpetrators committing the crime.

Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu said three security guards at the shop have been arrested on suspicion of negligence, as they were allegedly asleep during the robbery.

Investigations are ongoing.
