A one-year-and-seven-month-old baby has died after being hit by a car in Neno.

Neno Police spokesperson, Constable Rebecca Msoliza, said the incident occurred around 5 p.m. yesterday.

Msoliza identified the baby as Dennis Polokera from Litchowa Village in the Chekucheku area of Neno.

According to the police, a Toyota Hilux was traveling from Belo to Neno on the Neno-Kambale dirt road. When it reached ADMARC, the vehicle stopped to drop off a passenger. However, as it was leaving, the driver failed to notice that the baby had entered under the vehicle and accidentally ran over them.

The baby suffered severe head injuries and died shortly after being taken to Neno General Hospital.

The driver, Mota Gutachinyundo, is currently in police custody.
