Police in Phalula, Balaka, have today arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly being found in possession of cannabis without a license.
Balaka Police spokesperson, Gladson M’bumpha, has identified the suspect as John Madziadyenji.
According to M’bumpha, the police were tipped off by concerned community members who reported that the man was keeping cannabis at his home, located behind the Phalula market.
Acting on the tip, the police conducted a search at the location and discovered 1,500 grams of cannabis. The contraband was confiscated, and Madziadyenji was immediately taken into custody.
M’bumpha stated that the suspect will appear in court to answer charges related to the illegal possession of cannabis.
Madziadyenji hails from Phalula Village under Traditional Authority Phalula in Balaka.
