Dennis Chipao, a senior official responsible for research at the Police Department, has clarified that the police are not collaborating with civilians who torture people in Lilongwe with their panga knives

Chipao expressed surprise and concern over reports of people changing protesters in the city despite the presence of law enfoncers. He emphasized that the police are actively investigating those involved in such acts and warned that anyone found guilty of inciting violence will face charges.

“The police are not working with vigilantes, and we are shocked that some individuals are engaging in such behavior,” said Chipao.

The statement comes after reports surfaced of groups armed with sticks and other weapons taking matters into their own hands in the city. The police have urged the public to follow legal channels and avoid engaging in mob justice.
