The Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court in Mkukula, Dowa, has sentenced 50-year-old George Makawa to 19 years in prison with hard labor for defiling an 11-year-old girl.
Public Relations Officer for Dowa Police station Grecium Ngwira has confirmed the news and said Makawa committed the offense 26th December last year.
During the court hearing, State prosecutor Elizabeth Maluwa told the court that the accused took advantage of the young girl, violating her innocence.
In his ruling, Magistrate Felix Kamtsaira handed down the sentence, aligning with the state’s request for a stiff penalty to serve as a deterrent to others.
George Makawa hails from Makanda Village in Traditional Authority Wimbe, Kasungu District.
