In welcoming development for civil servants across Malawi, the department of human resources management and development has announced a significant increase in monthly allowances, including transport and special duty allowances. The move is expected boost morale and ease financial pressure for government employees.
According to the press release by principal secretary Blessings Chilabade, the new payment structure is set to take effect this April. The salary enhancement comes as a result of consultations between the government and relevant regulatory bodies overseeing public services and education sector’
Under the revised scheme, employees in Grade C-I will now receive K60,000, up from K40,000, J-N will be receiving K45,000 from K30,000 while O-R will now receive K30,000 from K20,000.
Transport allowances have also been adjusted, with those in Grade E-R now entitled to K30,000 from K20,000.
The increases in allowances will make a positive step by the government to support its workforce and improve welfare of civil servants. As the new rates take effects this April, many employees are expected to benefit from the adjustments.
