The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has concluded the voter transfer process and its now preparing for the nationwide inspection and verification of the voter ‘s register ahead of highly anticipated 2025 elections.
According to MEC, a total of 60,761 voters successfully changed their voting centers following provision of the PPLG act (2023). The transfer process was tightly controlled, allowing only those with valid reasons such as relocation, employment or business to make changes.
Speaking during press briefing, MEC Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja also addressed concerns about missing names in the consolidate register. ” After a thorough verification process 2,563 previously omitted names have been restored bringing the total number registered voters to 7,216,899″ she said.
In addition 19 individuals who could not complete their transfer due to missing records will be given a special opportunity to finalize the process on April 15.
To ensure transparency and accuracy MEC has scheduled three phases for public inspection of voters roll ion May 13-15, May 21-23 and May 29-31.
All registered voters are encouraged to verify their details during these periods at the center] where they registered or transferred.
MEC has also released a full electoral calendar leading up to the September 16 General elections, including nomination dates for councilors, members of parliament and presidential candidates.
Justice Mtalimanja called all citizens, political parties and civil society organization to actively participate and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
