MACRA Rolls Out National Addressing System to Boost Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Services

The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has announced the rollout of the National Addressing System (NAS) in all districts, aiming to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene services across the country.
According to MACRA’s Director of Postal Services and E-Commerce, Kondwani Kachika, NAS is a national asset that facilitates communication between public service institutions, businesses, and the general public.
“The implementation of address infrastructure will result in boosting public services in sanitation, hygiene, and water supply,” Kachika stated during the Code Yanga Real Estate opening workshop in Blantyre.
Kachika added that the system is expected to enhance service delivery, promote economic growth, and improve access to government services.
He emphasized that NAS will provide a comprehensive system for addressing locations across Malawi, making it easier for residents, visitors, and service providers to navigate.
He also said it will improve service delivery in the sense that the system aims to boost public services, including sanitation, hygiene, and water supply, by facilitating better planning and access to these essential services.
He further said ,NAS is expected to promote economic growth by enhancing business operations, improving access to government services, and providing a reliable addressing framework.
The rollout of NAS has received support from stakeholders, including the President of the Malawi Institute of Physical Planners, Gilbert Chilinde, and Real Estate practitioner Prince Machika. They encourage the public to utilize the system, highlighting its potential to improve access to better services.
The stakeholders’ meeting, themed “Elevating Real Estate Standards with National Address System,” marks the beginning of a nationwide rollout, with similar events scheduled for Zomba, Lilongwe, and Mzuzu.
Through NAS, Malawi is taking a significant step towards modernizing its infrastructure and enhancing service delivery for its citizens.
