The Nkhata Bay Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court has sentenced Oscar Kaund (34) of Kawanga village,T/A Timbiri in the district to 21 years Imprisonment for defiling a 4-year-old girl.
State prosecutor Dorothy Kanzangaza told the court that the incident took place on September 15, 2024 when the accused took the victim to his shop where he harassed her.
In submission, Kanzangaza prayed for a stiffer punishment saying the convict was a threat to society as he caused trauma to the victim instead of protecting her, as her neighbour.
Passing sentence, senior resident magistrate Godfrey Nyirenda concurred with the state saying the convict deserved a stiffer sentence arguing that it will help deter would-be offenders. He then sentenced the convict to 21 years.
