Zambian Man Arrested For Killing and Attempting to Eat His Dog

A 22-year-old man from Mwapona Compound in Choma district, identified as Davison Mudenda, has been detained by police following an incident in which he killed his dog, stating that he intended to eat the meat.
The matter was reported to police on 9th April, 2025, by his mother, who became concerned after finding the dog’s head and meat packed in a box.
According to Mudenda’s mother, he had returned home from manual labour and later disappeared with the dog, only to return carrying the box.
When questioned about his actions, Mudenda explained that he intended to consume the meat.
Rumours subsequently spread that he was trying to sell the dog meat, prompting a mob of curious residents to gather.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, confirmed that reinforcement was sent to Mwapona Police Post to manage the situation.
Officers found the suspect in custody along with the meat, which was later discarded due to its foul smell.
Daka stated that investigations found no evidence suggesting Mudenda intended to sell the meat, as he maintained that he killed the dog solely for personal consumption.
