Two men  have been sent to prison for four years after they were found guilty  of breaking into  house of Lloyd Kalulu  and stole three bags of maize worthy K150,000 at  night of April 3,2025 in Thyolo.

The criminals who were identified as Misheck Sinagogo,26 and Mphatso Justin,21 were convicted by the Thyolo Magistrate court on charges of burglary and theft.

According to state prosecutor Sub Inspector Stella Mwimaniwa, investigations by police traced the stolen maize to buyer who revealed he had unknowingly purchase it from one of suspects. The buyer’s cooperation led to identification and arrest of the suspects.

In court, both Sinagogo and Justin pleaded guilty. They asked for leniency, citing family responsibilities. However the state argued for a sentence due to the serious nature of the crime.

Presiding second grade magistrate James Balakasi agreed with the prosecution, stating that the offense warranted custodial punishment. He sentenced both of them to 12 months for theft and 48 months for burglary which makes four years in total.
