Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Bob Chimkango, a private practice lawyer and former Director of Corporate Services and Administration at the Malawi Housing Corporation, for abuse of office.
According to ACB Principal Public Relations Officer, Egrita Ndala, Chimkango allegedly used office funds for unofficial purposes.
“We’ve also arrested a lawyer, a private practice lawyer, Bob Chimkango, for abuse of office when he was the Director of Corporate Services and Administration at the Malawi Housing Corporation.
“The finding is that he used the money that was meant for the office for something that was not official, and that is abuse of office,” Ndala said.
Chimkango is expected to face charges under section 25B as read in section 34 of the Corruption Process Act. The ACB is still in the process of recording statements and may take him to court today or tomorrow, depending on the progress of the investigation.
Some have described ACB’s action as a step towards ensuring accountability and transparency in government institutions.
This development comes as the country continues to grapple with corruption issues.
