The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested private practice lawyer Bob Chimkango on allegations of abuse of public office during his time as Director of Administration and Corporate Affairs at the Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC).

According to a statement released by ACB spokesperson Egrita Ndala, Chimkango is accused of obtaining fuel and subsistence allowances amounting to K7.4 million from MHC in 2019.

The funds were reportedly meant for attending a High Court constitutional case in Lilongwe that had no connection to the interests of MHC.

The bureau states that Chimkango is expected to be charged with abuse of public office, contrary to Section 25B (1) as read with Section 34 of the Corrupt Practices Act.
