Man Sentenced to 14 Years in Jail for Having Carnal Knowledge With Step Daughter in Chikwawa

Mchinji First Grade Magistrate (FGM)’s court has convicted and sentenced a 40 year-old man, Elisa Balakasi to 9 years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL) for having carnal knowledge of a 14 year old step daughter in Chikwawa Village, Traditional Authority Mabvwere in the district.
According to Mchinji Police Station Public Relations Officer Limbani Mpinganjira, state Prosecutor from Kamwendo Police Post, Sergeant Thokozani Moloko informed the court that police arrested Balakasi when the surviver (victim) reported to Namizana Police that her husband had sexual intercourse with his step daughter.
The court also learnt through the state that Balakasi carnally knew the innocent soul in the month of February, 2025 in a nearby bush upon coaxing her with a K5,000 bank note.
It was in March, upon the mother noticing signs of pregnancy that the daughter revealed that she had sex with her step father.
During court appearance, Balakasi pleaded guilty to his own charge of having sexual intercourse with a minor, contravening section 138 (1) of the penal code.
Balakasi prayed for mercy by citing his family obligations, but the state asked the court to consider a stiffer punishment since the malpractice is becoming rampant amongst step-fathers in the district .
When passing sentence, FGM Fred Juma Chilowetsa concurred with the state and slapped Elias Balakasi with 9 years imprisonment with hard labour.
Elisa Balakasi hails from Chikwawa Village, Traditional Authority Mabvwere in Mchinji.
