The Nkhoma Synod of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) has said it is not aware of any of its pastors having prayed at the residence of former President of Malawi, Peter Mutharika, in Mangochi.
Fifty-five pastors from the Synod were reportedly led by the Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) Deputy President for the Central Region, Alfred Gangata, when they visited and prayed with Mutharika.
However, speaking on the matter, Synod Secretary General Vasco Kachipapa said the pastors did not inform or seek approval from the Synod, and therefore acted on their own.
This follows a similar visit earlier in February, when pastors from the Blantyre Synod also held prayers with the former president.
The Synod has since warned ministers against using its name for political purposes and says appropriate action will be taken.
