A 65-year-old man, Elias Chiomba, has died after being struck by a speeding bicycle in Mwanza District.

Mwanza Police spokesperson Hope Kasakula confirmed the incident, saying it occurred along the Tulonkhondo road while the deceased was on his way to work.

Chiomba was hit by a bicycle ridden by Wilson Stonek, a 17-year-old, who reportedly lost control of the bike due to excessive speed and faulty brakes.

Kasakula explained, “The bicycle had no brakes, and due to high speed, the rider failed to control it and ended up hitting Mr. Chiomba, who sustained serious head injuries and later died at Mwanza District Hospital.”

The deceased hailed from Tulonkhondo Village under Traditional Authority Kanduku in Mwanza.

Meanwhile, Police are urging all road users particularly cyclists and motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before using them, in order to avoid similar tragic accidents.
