
Dr. Chakwera Condoles with Catholics over Pope’s Death

The President of the Republic, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, and the First Lady, Madam Monica Chakwera, have expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the global leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis.
In a statement released by the First Couple, Dr. Chakwera said he had the privilege of meeting the Pope nine months ago. He described Pope Francis as a man who left behind a lasting legacy of faith, love, sacrifice, and a strong commitment to promoting peace, justice, and unity.
President Chakwera also highlighted Pope Francis’s dedication to good governance, noting that the Pontiff had led by example by transforming the Catholic Church in many ways.
Dr. Chakwera and Madam Monica Chakwera extended their heartfelt condolences to the family of Pope Francis, the Catholic Church in Malawi, and Catholics around the world.
Pop Francis died at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta on Monday, April 21, 2025.
