
EGENCO completes Nkula maintanance

The Electricity Generation Company Malawi Limited (EGENCO) has announced the successful completion of scheduled maintenance works at Nkula power station, which began during the easter holiday on April 17, 2025. The critical maintenance was carried out to enhance the reliability and performance of the station’s power generation systems.
The work involved demolishing a wall of concrete piles at Nkula A intake, which had been disrupting operations and servicing key components such as the bypass valve on machine number 4 at Nkula B powerhouse. In addition, general preventive maintenance was conducted on various power generation machines and related infrastructures.
According to EGENCO, the first machine at Nkula was restored and brought back online at 17:36 hours on April 21, 2025. By press time six out of eight power generations were operational, with efforts ongoing to restore the remaining two.
EGENCO expressed regrets for any inconvenience caused during the maintenance period and extended gratitude’s to the public and stakeholders for their patient and understanding.
