Police at Muloza Border Post in Mulanje have arrested a 53-year-old Mozambican businessman, Fadweck Thomas, for illegal possession of fuel and attempting to export it without proper documentation.

South East Region Police spokesperson, Sub Inspector Edward Kabango, confirmed the development, saying the arrest was made on April 20, 2025, following a tip-off. Officers were informed that a Toyota Land Cruiser, bearing Mozambican registration number MMS 93-48, was transporting three drums of diesel concealed under a lawnmower.

Upon conducting a search, officers discovered 600 litres of diesel, and the driver failed to produce any supporting documents for possession or exportation of the fuel.

Kabango said Thomas has been charged with illegal possession and attempted exportation without documentation. He is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, after the Easter holiday.

Thomas hails from Villa Milanje in Zambezia Province, Mozambique.
