Police authorities in Phalombe have urged residents to refrain from treating betting games, such as sports gambling, as a form of employment.
Miltons Moyo, the district’s head of community safety, issued the advice after visiting several locations where betting activities are held, as well as interacting with individuals involved in money transfer and receiving services.
He stressed that before people consider engaging in gambling, they should ensure their households are well provided for with all necessities.
On the issue of mobile money agents, Moyo advised them to report to the police any suspicious individuals who may attempt to defraud them using deceitful tactics.
Police emphasized that these are merely games of chance and not reliable ways to earn money.
People are being encouraged to focus on more reliable ways of earning a living and to stay alert against scam.
