The son of one of the three women allegedly murdered in Kabwe, Zambia by a former inmate played a crucial role in identifying and tracking down the suspect, leading to his arrest.
According to Ben Kapufi Ward Councillor Francila Mwape, the young man whose identity has been withheld for safety reasons spotted the suspect carrying a distinctive laptop bag in Maipambe roughly a week after his mother’s body was discovered.
The bag, which had gone missing at the time of the murder, raised immediate suspicion. Realizing it was the same one his mother carried the day she left for the farm, the son alerted his uncle. Together, they mobilized and followed the suspect, eventually leading to his capture.
“He (the suspect) had a laptop bag which he took from one of the women he murdered,” said Councillor Mwape. “Her son recognized it because it was the same bag his mother had when she left home.”
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
