Traffic Stop Leads to Firearm Arrest in Blantyre

Police in Blantyre have arrested a 40-year-old man, Blessings Mkandawire, for allegedly being in possession of a firearm without a valid license.

According to Chileka Police Station publications officer Jonathan Philipo, Mkandawire was initially stopped for traffic-related offenses, including suspected drunk driving. During a subsequent search of his vehicle, officers discovered a Turkish-made pistol along with 40 blank rounds of ammunition.

Mkandawire is expected to face charges under Malawi’s Firearms Act.

Police have since reminded motorists to adhere to traffic laws and warned that similar operations will continue across the city to enhance public safety.
