
UDF mourns the passing of Pope Francis

The United Democratic Front (UDF) has joined millions around the globe in mourning the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, who died on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88. The announcement was made by the Vatican, confirming that the Pope passed away peacefully at his residence in Casa Santa Marta.
In a heartfelt press statement issued from the office of UDF President Atupele Muluzi, the party expressed its deepest condolences to the Catholic faithful both in Malawi and across the world.
The UDF party praised Pope Francis as a global symbol of humility, peace, and compassion, a spiritual leader who consistently championed hope, justice, and service to humanity.
“Pope Francis was a beacon of humility, peace, and compassion a spiritual leader who inspired hope, advocated for justice, and dedicated his life to service,” reads part of the statement signed by Atupele Muluzi.
Recognizing the Pope’s influence beyond the Church, the UDF highlighted his efforts to promote social justice, unity, and the care of the most vulnerable globally. The party also emphasized its solidarity with the global Catholic community during this time of mourning and reflection.
The statement concluded with prayers for the Catholic Church as it faces a new chapter, asking for divine guidance upon its leaders and faithful.
“May the soul of Pope Francis rest in eternal peace,” the statement added.
The death of Pope Francis marks the end of a papacy that left a significant mark on both the spiritual and humanitarian fronts, with tributes pouring in from across religious and political divides.
