8 Football Fans Arrested For Vandalising Levy Mwanawasa Stadium In Zambia

Police in Zambia  have confirmed the arrest of eight Nkana Football Club supporters following violent scenes that marred Sunday’s high-stakes FAZ Super League clash against rivals Power Dynamos at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

The tension exploded in the 80th minute when the referee awarded a controversial penalty to Power Dynamos, sparking fury among sections of Nkana fans. What began as protests quickly spiraled into full-blown violence, with supporters hurling stones, beer cans, and broken stadium chairs onto the pitch, forcing a temporary stoppage.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Pathias Siandenge revealed that 200 officers had been deployed for security and swiftly intervened to protect players, officials, and restore order

A joint assessment with stadium management and Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu who was present found extensive damage, including: 350 destroyed stadium chairs, Shattered glass doors & roofing panels The total cost of damages is still being calculated.

Authorities have vowed to pursue further arrests as they review footage to identify more culprits. “Such hooliganism has no place in football,” warned Siandenge, urging clubs to help curb fan violence.
