Police in Thyolo District have arrested 20-year-old Chitani Henadi for allegedly attempting to sell his 8-year-old relative, who is also his half-sibling, for K3 million.

According to Masambanjati Police Station spokesperson Amos Banda, the incident occurred when Henadi took the child to a local shop and informed the shop owner that the child was available for sale at K3 million.

The shop owner, shocked by the offer, immediately alerted friends about the situation before reporting the matter to Zoa Police Station. Authorities from both Zoa and Masambanjati police stations coordinated to arrest Henadi.

“The suspect claimed he intended to sell the child. We are investigating the circumstances and motives behind this disturbing act,” said Banda.

The child has since been safely returned to family members.
