IMPROVED ROAD BRINGS HOPE TO BALAKA BUSSINESS COMMUNITY

The roads authority has announced that the construction of Nsipe – Balaka – Liwonde road which commenced on January 16, 2025, is expected to take one and a half years to be completed.

According to the Chief Excutive Officer for Roads Authority, Engineer Ammiel Champiti, the contract for this vital infrastructure project was awarded to Junchi construction company back in November last year.

Champiti further explained that between November and December 2024 , formal correspondence regarding the project was exchanged  among the government of Malawi, the Roads Authority, the contactor and the African Development Bank (ADB), which is funding the project.

Local business owner Henry Chilima from Balaka express optimism, noting that once completes the road will ease transportation challenges . He highlighted the current difficulties faced by motorist due to roads poor condition, describing the experience as extremely frustrating.

The government is financing the road through a loan amounting to 47 million Us dollars which is equivalent to over K81.5 billion secured from the African Development Bank
