56-Year-Old Man Arrested In Karonga For Allegedly Defiling 3-Year-Old Granddaughter

Karonga police spokesperson, Margret Msiska has comfirmed the arrest of  a 56-year-old man, Edward Mwakamogho, for having sex with his three-year-old granddaughter.

“Mwakamogho had been having sex with the girl from June 2024 to February 2025, when the girl’s parents’ marriage had already ended. The girl, along with her brother, live with their grandfather, who is also a man,” Msiska said.

In February this year, the girl’s mother decided to take her children to live with them. It was then that she noticed that the girl cried a lot when she went to the toilet. This prompted the mother to see her and question the girl, who explained how her grandfather did everything. The mother quickly went to Kaporo police station, which led to Mwakamogho’s arrest.

The results from the Karonga government hospital confirmed that the girl had indeed been defiled.

Mr. Mwakamogho, who is from the village of Benjamin Chawinga, the chief of Kilupula, in Karonga district, will appear in court to answer the charges, which are in violation of section 138 of the country’s constitution.
