The Mulanje Magistrate’s Court has convicted two police officers and a businessperson for causing grievous bodily harm to a 13-year-old boy in Mulanje, which led to the amputation of his arms.

The two police officers are Charles Mbewe and Stanley Chigaru, who were based at Misanjo Police Unit in the district, while the businessman is identified as Mabvuto Chikhwaza.

Besides the grievous bodily harm count, senior resident magistrate Gift Msume has also found the officers guilty of neglecting their official duty.

According to findings of the court, Chikhwaza tied the boy’s arms with an elastic rubber to his back and took him to Misanjo Police Unit in Mulanje where he stayed for some days in that state. Msume has since set May 22 2025, as the day the court will sentence the convicts.
